PJ Library – “A Time to Grow” High Holidays Guide

The three-week Jewish holiday season that begins with Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) is a celebration of growth.
On the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah (also called the “birthday of the world”) and Yom Kippur (Day of Forgiving), we look back on the past year and take responsibility for our actions. We think about ways to make ourselves and our world better. We reconnect with family and friends and look ahead with hope to a sweet new year.
On the harvest festival of Sukkot (Festival of Small Huts), we tune into growth in the natural world — crops that sustain us, rain that nourishes the earth, and the sight and scent of bountiful plants that bring us joy. And finally, on Simchat Torah (Rejoicing with the Torah), we complete the annual reading of the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) and begin it all over again — a cycle of reading and storytelling that never grows old, because each year we are growing right along with these stories. This is the journey that Jewish tradition invites us to take each new year as our families continue to grow.
PJ Library has produced this beautiful guide that can be downloaded here, along with a range of resources to make your Jewish holidays interesting and enriching.
