How to Light Your Hanukkiah

    1. Place the candles in the hanukkiah right to left, adding more each night.
    2. Light the shamash first.
    3. Say two blessings — one for lighting the candles, and one for miracles.

  1. Use the shamash to light the other candles.
    Light from the newest one first – lighting left to right.

On Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, we light a special candelabra called a hanukkiah, with nine branches.

On the first night, we light one candle. Each night, we add one more candle until all eight are shining brightly. The ninth candle, called the shamash (helper), is used to light the others.
