Shalom Collective, PJ Library, and BJE NSW are coming to Canberra to visit the ACT Jewish community. Together with the ACT Jewish Community, we’re creating a weekend of meaningful, joyful, and engaging experiences for families, children, teens and young adults.
From storytelling and hands-on workshops to shared Shabbat celebrations, Havdallah party and Israel Advocacy, ‘Simcha in the Capital’ is all about coming together to celebrate what makes our community special.

Playgroup
Rosh Hashana is around the corner – BEE sure to join us for a fun-filled morning of hands-on sensory play, Rosh Hashana crafts and games especially for little ones.
Together we will share stories and sing songs as we prepare to bring in the New Year.
Time: 10-11:30am
Ages: 2-6 (Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult)

Kabbalat Shabbat
Let’s welcome Shabbat together in a fun, meaningful, and engaging session! Through craft, songs, movement, and storytelling, children will celebrate the traditions of Shabbat in a way that’s playful and engaging.
We’ll light pretend candles, sing Shabbat songs, share challah and grape juice, and enjoy the magic of Shabbat together.
Teens and above will enjoy a beautiful and uplifting Shabbat service filled with singing, dancing, and connection.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come together with other Jewish families in a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment. Celebrate tradition, community, and joy as we welcome in Shabbat together.

Seudah Shlishit
Gather for the third Shabbat meal — a time for connection, community, and delicious food.
Time: 5:15-6:45pm
Ages: High School Students

Havdallah Party – dinner included
Fun for the whole family! Join us for a magical and sensory-rich evening as we say goodbye to Shabbat and welcome the new week together! Our Havdallah Party is a joyful, hands-on experience for families, filled with music, movement, craft, and connection.
Children will create their own Havdallah set, and take part in a beautiful, sensory Havdallah ceremony full of light, scent, and song.
Teens will have a chance to keep building their relationships and have meaningful moments with their peers as Shabbat comes to a close.
A casual dinner will be provided as well as a warm sense of community as we celebrate the end of Shabbat and the beginning of something new.
Time: 6:45-8:15pm

Young Families Rosh Hashana Workshop
Celebrate the sweetness of the New Year with a hands-on Rosh Hashana sensory workshop for children and their parents!
Together, you’ll explore the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of the holiday through creative, play-based activities and crafts that will bring Rosh Hashana to life.
We will sing songs, share a special story and listen to the sounds of the shofar.
This joyful experience encourages curiosity, creativity, and family connection, leaving you ready to welcome a sweet and meaningful New Year!
Time: 10-11:30am
Ages: 2-6 (Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult)
Cost: $10 per child

Israel Advocacy
In this engaging session, we’ll dive into the roots of the Jewish people, the connection to the land of Israel, and the journey of the Jewish diaspora. Gain tools to confidently advocate for Israel, fight antisemitism and understand its place in today’s world.
